Contribute to Recovery Reprieve’s Future

Creating Lasting Change Through Planned Gifts

Contribute to Recovery Reprieve’s future by planning for a special gift, such as a bequest in your Will or Trust, or through a Charitable Gift Annuity to receive payments for life. There are many creative and flexible planned giving options that can benefit you while building the maternal mental health infrastructure that mothers desperately need.

Best of all, such a gift qualifies for membership in The Founding Legacy Circle, a group that honors the generosity of donors who contribute to maternal healing in this special way. If you have already included Recovery Reprieve in a bequest or other planned gift, we hope you will let us know and join The Founding Legacy Circle.

BEQUESTS

The Simplest Way to Create Your Legacy
Donors who have remembered Recovery Reprieve in their Wills help build maternal mental health infrastructure in profound ways—funding clinical scholarships so mothers can access care regardless of cost, supporting technology platforms that make virtual treatment accessible nationwide, providing essential research that establishes the evidence base for policy change, and ensuring sustained support for the therapeutic interventions that transform maternal trauma into sustained healing. A bequest is one of the simplest ways to provide for Recovery Reprieve’s future and can take many forms.

How You Can Structure Your Bequest

You may arrange for Recovery Reprieve to receive:

  • A specific dollar amount: Leave a designated sum that will fund scholarships, research, or program operations.

  • Specified assets: Donate securities, real estate, or tangible personal property such as stocks that have appreciated in value, rental property, or other assets.

  • All or a percentage of the remainder of your estate: A residuary bequest allows you to provide for family and other priorities first, then direct what remains to Recovery Reprieve.

  • A contingent bequest: Make Recovery Reprieve the beneficiary only if the named beneficiary is unable to accept the bequest, ensuring your charitable intent is fulfilled even if circumstances change.

You may make a bequest to Recovery Reprieve by preparing a new Will or adding a codicil to your present Will. An outright bequest to Recovery Reprieve is fully tax-deductible for estate-tax purposes.

How to Make a Bequest: Useful Language

The most useful bequest is an unrestricted bequest for the general purposes of Recovery Reprieve. This permits the organization to use your gift wherever it is most needed at the time—whether that’s expanding clinical capacity, funding emergency scholarships, supporting technology development, or addressing urgent gaps as maternal mental health needs evolve.

Suggested language for making an unrestricted bequest:

“I give, devise and bequeath the sum of ____ dollars, all or ____ percent of the rest, remainder and residue of my estate of every kind and description including lapsed legacies and devises to Recovery Reprieve Inc.,
  • Your Address Here
  • Federal Tax ID
  • Your EIN Here-, for its general charitable purposes.

Suggested language for a specific purpose:

“I give, devise and bequeath (the sum of ____ dollars, (all or ____ percent of the rest, remainder and residue of my estate of every kind and description (including lapsed legacies and devises) to Recovery Reprieve Inc.,
  • Your Address Here
  • Federal Tax ID
  • Your EIN Here

…to create an endowment fund which, subject to Recovery Reprieve’s endowment spending policy, is to be used for the following purpose:
- state the purpose—such as clinical scholarships, specialized support circles, research and evaluation, or technology infrastructure.”

Important Note on Flexibility:

If you do specify a use for your bequest, the following language will ensure that your gift will always remain productive:

“If at any time in the judgment of the Board of Directors of Recovery Reprieve Inc. the designated use of this bequest is no longer practicable or appropriate, then the Board shall use the bequest to further the general charitable purposes of Recovery Reprieve, giving consideration, where possible, to my special interest as described above.”

CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITIES

Income for Your Life, Legacy for Mothers

A Charitable Gift Annuity is an agreement between you and Recovery Reprieve that provides you with a fixed annual payment for life in exchange for irrevocably transferring assets to the organization. This allows you to support maternal mental health while securing reliable income for yourself or a loved one.

How Charitable Gift Annuities Work

  • Flexible Funding: Gifts can be made with cash or marketable securities. Using appreciated stock can help you avoid capital gains tax.

  • Age-Based Payments: Your fixed payment amount is determined by your contribution and your age at the time of the gift.

  • Dual Beneficiaries: Payments can be made to one or two annuitants (e.g., you and a spouse). The minimum age to receive payments is 65.

  • Tax Advantages: A significant portion of your annual income will be tax-free for a number of years, and you are eligible for a charitable deduction in the year the gift is made.

  • Deferred Options: You can choose to defer payments for several years, which results in higher future payments and a higher immediate tax deduction.

Example 1: Immediate Payment Gift Annuity

Mrs. Patricia Henderson (Age 75) establishes a $25,000 gift annuity. She receives a fixed 7% payment ($1,750 per year) for life, most of which is tax-free. She also claims an immediate tax deduction of approximately $10,379. Her gift will eventually fund clinical scholarships for mothers in crisis.

Example 2: Deferred Payment Gift Annuity

Ms. Jennifer Martinez (Age 55) establishes a $25,000 annuity but defers payments for ten years. She claims an immediate deduction of $10,883.50. When she turns 65, she begins receiving fixed payments of 9% ($2,250 per year). This helps her build a secure retirement while ensuring future mothers have the care she once lacked.

Charitable Rollover Gift Annuity (IRA Owners 70½+)

As of 2025, donors can make a once-per-lifetime Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from their IRA (up to $54,000) to establish a gift annuity. While these payments are fully taxable, the distribution counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) without increasing your taxable income for the year.

CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS

Income Now, Impact Later

A Charitable Remainder Trust is a managed trust tailored to your financial needs. It provides either fixed (CRAT) or variable (CRUT) income for life or a term of up to 20 years.

  • Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (CRAT): Pays a fixed dollar amount annually, providing total predictability.

  • Charitable Remainder Unitrust (CRUT): Pays a percentage of the trust's value; if the trust grows, your income grows.

Example: Dr. Michael Thompson (Age 72) uses $750,000 of appreciated stock to fund a CRAT for his wife. This avoids immediate capital gains taxes and provides her $45,000 a year for life. Upon the trust's conclusion, the remaining principal—estimated at over $1 million—will fund years of clinical care for mothers suffering from trauma.

POOLED INCOME FUND

Invest Together, Benefit Forever

The Recovery Reprieve Pooled Income Fund operates similarly to a mutual fund. The Fund accepts irrevocable gifts (minimum $10,000) from many donors, manages them as a common pool, and distributes the income proportionately to beneficiaries.

  • Variable Income: Your income fluctuates based on the fund’s annual performance.

  • Low Entry Point: This is an accessible way to begin your legacy journey.

  • Tax Benefits: You receive an immediate income tax charitable deduction based on your age and the fund’s historic return rate.
